Who we are today
Jade Speaks Up Educational Trust is an Aotearoa-based charitable trust focused on creating safer environments for tamariki and rangatahi.
We build the knowledge, confidence and practical capability of adults, organisations and communities to recognise concerns, respond safely and strengthen cultures of trust, belonging and inclusion.
Through practical training, tailored organisational support and accessible resources, we help people put safeguarding and safe practice into action. Our role is to help adults act safely within their role, model healthy and respectful behaviour and know when further support is needed.
Our Vision, Mission and Purpose

WHAT WE DO
MISSION
We equip adults, organisations and communities with the knowledge, confidence and practical tools to create safe environments for children.

WHY IT MATTERS
PURPOSE
To strengthen the safety and wellbeing of tamariki and rangatahi by supporting adults to recognise risk, respond to harm and develop cultures of safety, trust and belonging.
Our Story
Jade Speaks Up grew from more than a decade of community-led violence prevention work in West Auckland. Its foundations were laid through Violence Free Waitakere and the Violence Free Begins With Me programme, developed with local primary and intermediate schools from 2004.
Drawing on the collective knowledge of educators, community advocates and professionals from the justice, health and social-service sectors, our Co-Founders Elaine Dyer and Andrea O’Hagan shaped this experience into Jade Speaks Up! - a practical, teacher-led programme focused on children’s safety, emotional wellbeing and sense of belonging.
Today, the Jade Speaks Up Educational Trust carries this kaupapa forward by strengthening the capability of the adults, organisations and communities surrounding our tamariki.
Jade Speaks Up is not a statutory care or protection agency. If you have concerns about a child’s safety or welfare, please contact Oranga Tamariki or the Police.
